Backpacking along Olympic National Forest Coastline

Following Graduation in April, Gabe and I headed to the Portland area. After a few days, we left with his sister Tori to go on a backpacking trip along the Olympic National Forest Coastline. The hike itself was not extremely rigorous, just twenty or so miles in five days. Most of the mileage was along the beach. We had to learn to read tide charts, in order to make the low tide crossings along the trail. Our backpack trip was relaxing aside from a few pesky animals that woke us in the middle of the night. One of the most memorable nights was the last one. We set up camp on a two hundred foot bluff in the rainforest overlooking the ocean. That night a huge storm blew in and all night long I was certain that our little blue tarp would blow away from all the wind and torrential downpour. There is something awing about standing in a rainforest with everything decaying...and yet there is tons of life teeming!

Hiking Crew at Cascade Waterfall

During Explore, most of our time is taken up with program related details. Yet, we find that occasionally we are given a day or two with time to relax and rest. A small group of us spent many of our rest times hiking local areas and trails nearby Camp Bighorn in Montana. One Sunday afternoon in February we hiked a trail that led to a Cascade waterfall overlooking the Clark Fork River Valley. In fact, if you look at the picture of the valley very, very closely you might be able to find the spot where Camp Bighorn is located. We followed the waterfall down its steep return to the valley and had fun hanging out.

2010 Graduation from Explore

The end of April wrapped up our finals at Prairie Bible College. Along with other four-year students those of us in Explore and Discover graduated with our one-year certificates. Graduation weekend was underway with the President's dinner celebration, where family and students mingle with staff in a room filled with good food. Following the dinner was the Re-graduation ceremony of the graduates of 1960. We got to hear the stories of how God has worked in the lives of many of the re-graduates and then be blessed by them praying over us as 2010 graduates. To finish our Friday evening off, Explore held a baccalaureate for the families of current students. Saturday was the official graduation ceremony and the announcement of a new president on Prairies campus! Thanks to my good friend Timo Towne for taking pictures of graduation weekend!
